Mini Stamp Collecting Albums

Print one stamp album (see PDF file below) for each student.  I suggest you prepare the books before class begins – the instructions are included in the PDF file.

During each class, distribute postage stamps from the country you are studying, plus hinges to mount the stamps. Instruct your students how to use the hinges.  During the “World” lesson and the “Europe” lesson, distribute stamps from countries you will not be covering during class.  The students can color the cover of their album when there is extra time during class.

Click on the thumbnail below and open the PDF file in Adobe Reader to read and print. If you open in a browser window, the text may be garbled. You may share this online and use the images without permission, but please have all links point to this blog post, not to the PDF file. Thanks!

Finding Stamps

If you have several students, it may be difficult to find enough stamps from some countries at a reasonable price, and you may have to leave a few spots in the album blank.  I buy most of my used postage stamps on ebay.com and from mysticstamp.com.  If find my hinges at Hobby Lobby and from Mystic Stamp Company.

If you have never mounted stamps before, here is a quick tutorial (instead of using the sponge, you can instruct students to lick the hinge VERY LIGHTLY):

Map Folders

Click here for the Map of Europe for the front of the folders.  Print one for each student, then trim to fit folders.  Either glue the map on the front of the folder before class begins, or have the students do this in class with glue sticks.  Label each folder with each child’s name.

Color each country on the folder map as you learn about it. Color the oceans when there is extra time in class. Keep the mini stamp albums and any additional worksheets in this folder.  Collect folders at the end of each class; students can take them home at the end of the year.

I colored the sample map using the same colors in the Rand McNally Junior Classroom Atlas:
