Growing With Jesus Devotional Book For Children ~ Book Review

Growing With JesusDevotions For Kids

Disclosure: I was not compensated for this post, but was given a free book to review.  I only recommend products and companies that I will be of benefit to my readers.

Recently it’s been on my heart to start some regular devotion time with my daughter – something separate from school, Bible lessons, and other reading.  A friend of mine recommended taking her someplace special each week for hot chocolate and coffee (or in our case, hot chocolate and Diet Coke, or ice cream perhaps?)   Based on my friend’s advice, the plan is to read a brief, age-appropriate devotion, then let M ask questions and talk for 45 minutes to an hour.  I’m really looking forward to starting this….now to find a great devotional book….

Enter Thomas Nelson Publishers!  The day I came home from this conversation with my friend, I found the Growing With Jesus devotional book on my table, just arrived waiting for my review!  Perfect timing!  I read through several of the devotions and was very impressed. There are 100 two-page devotions, with a scripture verse, “Thought to Grow On”, and an age-appropriate challenge for the day.  Each day also includes amazing facts about the world we live in.  This focus on God’s creation through the “My Amazing World” fact box will add interest for both the parent and child.  It may even be a spark for further exploration!

Written for ages 6 – 10 years old, I thought I may be able to adapt Growing With Jesus to the PreK level.  Upon further review of the book, I decided I will save it for a year or so.  It’s too good – I don’t want her to miss something because she is too young for the content!  Another friend highly recommends another Tommy Nelson book, Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young, so I’m going to take a look at this one too.

I love the illustrations – very whimsical and creative.
