Same Kind Of Different As Me ~ Children’s Book Review and Free Printables

I live in a bubble. I’m able to shop for groceries, buy gas for my car, sign up my child for camp and art lessons. I have a decent home in a nice neighborhood. Although there is hunger and homelessness in my city,  I rarely see it; it rarely affects me. I need reminders to leave my comfort zone and seek opportunities to meet the needs of others.  This book was one of those reminders – no guilt, no politics, just a true story to remind me that the person I just drove by on the corner holding that cardboard sign is a real person, loved by God.

Same Kind of Different As Me For Kids tells the true story of Denver Moore and Ron Hall, and is based on the New York Times bestselling book Same Kind of Different As Me: A Modern-Day Slave, an International Art Dealer, and the Unlikely Woman Who Bound Them Together. Their story inspired the major motion picture coming in October 2017.

This children’s book introduces readers to Denver Moore as a boy growing up on a sharecropper’s farm. I love the illustrations which help tell the story of his traveling to the big city, where he immediately became homeless and increasingly hopeless and mean. But, God intervened through Ron Hall an his wife Debbie, turning his story into one of redemption and hope.

Same Kind Of Different As Me For Kids is a wonderful way to introduce children to the problem of homelessness in a gentle, age-appropriate way.  My daughter sat attentively while I read to her, and she said really liked this book and its paintings.
