One Small Donkey ~ Children’s Christmas Book Review
Are you ready for Christmas? This year, I’m actually getting ready earlier than usual – I’ve already wrapped a few presents! One of my favorite things about unpacking the Christmas storage boxes is rediscovering our Christmas books. Tommy Nelson has sent a new release for our review – and our Christmas library!

One Small Donkey, by Dandi Daley Mackall, tells the Christmas story from the perspective of the little donkey that might have carried Mary to Bethlehem and witnessed our Savior’s birth. It is beautifully illustrated by Marta Alvarez Miguens.
One Small Donkey is the story of a small animal who compares himself to the large, proud horses nearby. However, he discovers that he can accomplish great things for God, even though he is little! A very encouraging story for little ones who may be feeling a bit inferior to bigger kids.
Written in a soothing rhyme, this book can help create wonderful Christmas memories – what a nice story to read every Christmas by the tree or at bedtime. I love the illustrations – the artist has captured a sense of wonder in the characters’ facial expressions just beautifully!
One small donkey with a hee-hee-haw!
Cheering at the Savior’s birth –
One small donkey with a giant heart
Welcomes Christ, our peace on earth.
I especially like the last line of the story – He really is our peace here on earth!
