Little Critter Children’s Books Review

Time for a wonderful new batch of children’s book reviews and giveaways from Tommy Nelson!  I so enjoy receiving their package each month and giving my readers a chance to find out about their new publications.  I really appreciate how Tommy Nelson books and DVDs reinforce the faith concepts and values that we are already teaching in our home.  Sometimes, a story or movie can put an idea into words much better than I can!

Little Critter Being ThankfulLittle Critter’s World

I have a confession – I hide books from my preschooler!  Sometimes there are certain ones she latches onto and wants to read Every Single Day.  I hide them for a few weeks, just so I can read something different! One of the books in hiding is a Little Critter book about growing a garden.  It’s a wonderful book and I will bring it out again soon.  But, since my little one loves Little Critter, I was very happy to receive these two books to review.  We read them last night and my daughter sat in rapt attention. Then we took them in the car the next day for her to look at while we were doing errands. I enjoy the humor that probably only adults would understand (“The Pear” label on a laptop, the “Do Not Litter” sign laying on the ground).

We All Need Forgiveness is written in the first person – Little Critter is recounting all the bad things that happened to him one day, and he is having a hard time forgiving the people responsible.  Until he himself causes a disaster!  This is a wonderful book to help you talk about forgiveness with a child.

Little Critter in LapLittle Critter is having a difficult time appreciating what he already has in the book Being Thankful. Another great book for starting a discussion with a child.  It’s easy for me to get in the mode of trying to make my child happy all of the time and keep her from “doing without.”  Unfortunately this doesn’t prepare her for the real world, and doesn’t do much for her character, either.  Being Thankful reminds  both kids AND adults to appreciate God’s blessings – what we already have – instead of constantly coveting what we don’t.  (Loved the idea of a “thankful rock.”)
