My preschooler and I just read the cutest books by children’s author Julia Dweck.  The entertaining rhymes and vivid illustrations of Blucy: The Blue Cat and Mary had A Sleepy Sheep kept her captivated to the end! One of the things I like about these digital books is that the pages come up almost full screen, so they are easy to read and see the illustrations in detail.

Blucy: The Blue Cat is about a cat that turns blue when she is in a mood.  She is a mischievous little thing and gets into all sorts of trouble.  The illustrations by Erika Lebarre bring Blucy and her new owner, Mandy to life.  It’s easy (being a former cat owner) to imagine Blucy driving Mandy crazy with her antics.  But, being a cute and lovable cat (yes, I’m a cat person), Mandy of course loves Blucy in spite of it all. Julia Dweck included some fun facts about cats at the end, too!  This was my favorite of the two books.

Mary had A Sleepy Sheep is a fun parody of Mary Had a Little Lamb.  Mary has a lamb that sleeps all the time, no matter where they went.  Mary finally figures out how to make him stay awake, but isn’t sure it was a good idea! My preschooler sat still with her eyes glued to the computer screen all through this book.  (We don’t have a Kindle or iPad, so we read this before bed on our computer.)  She liked the game of finding the little mouse on each page.  Most interesting to me was the facts about the “real” Mary and her lamb at the end of the book!

Both Blucy: The Blue Cat and Mary had A Sleepy Sheep are available on Amazon at the retail price of $3.99 each (Kindle editions).  Be sure to check out Julia Dweck’s other books too, including the new Humpfree: The Humpless Camel!
