Brave Girls

We received the Brave Girls Bible Stories book last October to review, and I have been greatly impressed by my daughter’s continued enthusiasm for this Bible story book.  There are some books which are enjoyed once or twice, but once the curiosity has been satisfied and the story has been read, interest wanes.  Not so with Brave Girls.  There are 206 pages, 31 stories, plus mini-biographies of each of the modern girls to read.  This story book is meant for girls ages 4 – 8.

Girls ages 7 through 11 can continue their journey as a brave girl with help from two new 90-day devotionals from Tommy Nelson: Brave Girls: Better Than Perfect and Brave Girls: Faithful Friends.

The Devotionals

In Better Than Perfect, girls are encouraged with the truth of their self-worth and extreme value in their Father God’s eyes.  With chapter titles such as “Truth Detectives,” “Divine Design,” and “Character Quest,” the one – to two-page devotions are written at an age-appropriate level.  Each begins with a relevant scripture verse and ends with a “Prayer Pointer” to jump-start your prayer life.  Opportunities to write down your thoughts are also provided throughout the book (although not so much as to make it tedious.)

Pretending to be perfect is exhausting! …Fortunately, Jesus loves to help the humble in heart. So when you mess up, quit the cover-up.  Confess it and smile.  God’s grace is much greater than your goof-ups, and His love knows no end.

Although brief, the devotions are to the point and contain essential truths for a child’s life journey.  I really like how the first several pages start out with a lie a child may believe, and confronts it head-on with God’s truth.  To confront lies (either from others or ones we tell ourselves) with truth is an essential skill we all need to learn!

Faithful Friends is formatted in a similar way to Better Than Perfect, and is aimed toward helping girls to build great friendships and share their faith.

Brave Girls Devotional Books Inside

I’m looking forward to reading these books with my daughter in a couple of years.  Perfectionism plagued me much of my life, and I would love to help her avoid it if possible!  And relationships can be difficult at any age.  These devotionals have the potential to arm your girls with truth and help her be confident in her relationship with Jesus.
