She immediately noticed the cheerful yellow dust jacket and whimsical characters on the cover of Henry Hodges Needs a Friend by Andy Andrews. In fact, she picked it up right away and began leafing through it slowly. After dinner, Daddy was enlisted to read it to her. From my office, I could hear delightful laughter and giggling as my husband read the charming rhymes. Both give the book a big thumbs up!
I was not surprised, since Andy Andrews wrote another of our favorite books, The Kid Who Changed the World (read my review at this link). Henry Hodges Needs a Friend is about a lonely boy whose parents tell him he’s about to pick out a pet. Henry is has an impressive imagination, and my daughter loved all the unusual pets he thought he might get. This is a wonderful story about friendship that will leave kids smiling! (And judging by my 5-year-old’s response, you’ll have to read it again soon.)
