Fun & Educational In Gatlinburg, Tennessee: Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies
Ripley’s Aquarium of the Smokies in Gatlinburg is one of the finest aquariums I have ever visited. The tunnel with the moving walkway is particularly enjoyable. There are several shows (feedings, etc.) scheduled throughout the day, and several spots to just sit down and enjoy the view! In the children’s area there are several educational activities and a small pool containing horseshoe crabs that can be picked up. The penguin exhibit is fun, too!
The Aquarium offers special programs at special rates for Preschoolers, Home School Families, School Groups and Teachers. For reservations or for curriculum questions, contact the Education Department at (888) 240-358 extension 2142 or email education@ripleys.com.
Admission is a little expensive, (at the time of this writing, $25 per adult and $6 – $12 for children, plus a few dollars for parking) but it is an excellent indoor field trip for the whole family on a rainy or hot day. Allow 1-1/2 to 3 hours for your visit, depending on your children’s ages and interest levels. There is fast food available for purchase.
