Fun & Educational In Tennessee: Darrell’s Place Playground In Warrior’s Path State Park

Darrells Dream Playground 1

Although we’ve been visiting family in the Kingsport, TN area for years, we just recently found out about the wonderful playground at Warrior’s Path State Park. Darrell’s Dream is set in a beautiful wooded area, with a stream running through it.  Walk up to the tree house to the left, and along the path you will find displays describing local wildlife, plants, and insects.  Great way to fit a little science into your play!

There is lots of playground equipment for climbing, swinging, and jumping.  Special equipment is available for toddlers as well as special needs children. Bathrooms and parking are both very close by.  I thought this little outdoor theater was cute!

There is a nice, large pavilion with several picnic tables.

A small stream runs through the playground.  Your kids can have fun building dams and cooling hot feet after play!

Around the perimeter of the park is a trail leading you to several “Narnia” stations. Go through the wardrobe and hear or read the story of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis! M loved this; we recently listened to all seven Chronicles of Narnia books on cd and also watched the movies.

At each station there is a sign like this one.  The story is written in text and in Braille, and is also available to hear over a speaker (just push the button at the front of the sign).

The Beavers’ house from The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe.  I thought this trail was very creative – I’ve never seen anything like it at other parks we’ve visited.
