My Story: Noah and My Story: Daniel ~ Childrens’ Books Reviews

My Story DanielDisclosure: I was not compensated for this post, but was given two books at no cost to review.  I only recommend products and companies that I will be of benefit to my readers.

Just in case you didn’t see my post with the announcement last month, I wanted to share with you that I am now a Tommy Nelson Mommy!  My daughter and I are excited about the new books and other resources we will be able to review each month.  I’m also very pleased to bring you new giveaways, too, for wonderful Tommy Nelson resources.  If you have children kindergarten aged and younger, you may be interested my first two reviews: the sweet little book 12 Little Blessings and the I Will Trust God Hermie & Friends DVD.

A Scrapbook

The first think I noticed about the My Story books were the character illustrations – I love them!  Whimsical, without being too goofy.  I believe they will appeal to both boys and girls.  The second thing I noticed was the scrapbook-feel to the book.  Being a former cropper myself, this visual look appealed to me.  The last thing that made me smile was the writing in first-person (“Hello, my name is Noah…”).

My Story Noah

I believe all three of these elements bring home the fact that these stories really did happen in the past, to real people.  The stickers in the back of each book can be used to reinforce a child’s memory of the story in the “My Sticker Journal” section.  The first-person telling of the stories did not detract from the Biblical accuracy of the books.  The writing style is down-to-earth, using current expressions.  I’ve been on the lookout for fun, engaging Bible story books, and now I’ve found a new series we can collect! (There are also books featuring David and Joseph so far.)  These books would be a great resource for teaching little ones some Bible history.

My daughter listened quietly to the entire story (she picked the Noah book first) and then it was time for stickers!   The only thing I would add to the book is perforated sticker pages – I think it’s easier to rip out the entire page than to flip back and forth.  Minor detail.  M loves stickers, and enjoys making sure she puts them in just the right place.  There are several blank spots to put specific stickers on the last few pages of the book.  Then there are lots left over for play, or to place throughout the book.  Yes, we love stickers.  Stickers make us happy.
