Inspirational AND Fun

Meet Iesodo (Yay – Sa – Doe), an amazing dove who loves all the birds – even the common and the weak.  Iesodo is Japanese word which means “The Way of Jesus.”  In the DVD Iesodo: Believe, he has come to teach and lead the birds in a new, better way of life.  Natalie and Jared Hankins, the Executive Producers,  wanted to create entertaining stories that also had a Biblical message of faith and love.

The DVD came just in time for our family’s Friday Movie Night. My husband and I both were impressed with the message and the beautiful animation.  We also enjoyed the music (my preschooler jumped up and started dancing at one point).  I especially liked the theme song, and Maggie’s voice is beautiful!  In our opinion, the creators achieved their goal of combining faith and fun entertainment for children.

For those used to faster-paced movies, the Iesodo stories may seem a little slow at times.  However, the two 14-minute stories kept my preschooler’s attention; her eyes were glued to the screen, and she had a smile on her face for almost the entire length of the DVD.  At the end of the second episode, she asked to see another one.  That is my daughter’s stamp of approval!

Faith, Hope, and Love

The first episode on the Believe DVD is called “The Gathering,” and is inspired by Matthew 5:3–10 and Luke 6:20-22.  Iesodo gathers the flock – including a few close friends who depict the disciples – and gives a version of the Sermon on the Mount.  In the second episode, “Believing is Seeing” based on John 9, we find out that Iesodo can work miracles.

Iesodo: Believe is a wonderful resource for introducing the stories and message of Jesus to children. Full-color family discussion guides are available to link the Iesodo episodes with the real Jesus of the Bible. (Go to the Iesodo.com web site to download and print.)  I especially appreciate the message of hope, and the encouragement to help others in need.  The dove Iesodo is pictured in both episodes as a compassionate creature who values each bird individually.  Children are presented with a picture of a community of friends who treat each other with respect and kindness.  I believe that the stories on this DVD will help plant important truths in my child’s mind: Jesus loves her individually, His love is not dependent on what she does (or does not do), and that He can love others through her – even those who are different from herself.  Best of all, she can have fun while learning about Jesus!
